Birth: April 24 Height: 178 cm Weight: 73 kg Zodiac: Taurus    Shiba Tatsuya is a First Year Student in Course 2 of the First High School. He is the eldest son of Four Leaves Technology (FLT) company's president, part of the Yotsuba clan. His only sibling is Shiba Miyuki. Since he was born in April and Miyuki born in March, they are studying in the same year according to Japanese school system. Miyuki scores at the top of the class of freshmen, while Tatsuya scores near the bottom in the technical skills portion. The school is split between the high scoring students, blooms, and the low scoring students, weeds.  Tatsuya appears to have a very cold personality except when it comes to his sister and his friends.  It is later revealed that Tatsuya is "'half' of Taurus Silver," while the "Taurus" part came from Ushiyama, who Tatsuya calls Mr. Taurus. It is also stated that this is done because Tatsuya is "still an underage student", so he couldn't patent his own theories. He was born without any magical ability apart from decomposition and regrowth, which was unacceptable to the Yotsuba clan. In hopes that his magical abilities would improve, his mother, Shiba Miya and her twin sister, his aunt, Yotsuba Maya, experimented on the six-year old Tatsuya. Miya used the forbidden Non-Systematic Magic "Mental Design Interference," forcibly altering the area in the consciousness that creates strong emotions, called the limbic system, by inputting a Magic Calculation Model, creating an artificial Magician.  Tatsuya was granted the ability to wield magic, but still not par to what they expected. Unfortunately, the artificial magic operation area is markedly inferior in performance to that of a natural one, and he could only end up being used as a Guardian. He is also part of the JSDF 101 Independent Magic-Equipped Battalion, a highly elite magical fighting force, despite being in high school. He wields several personal magics, gram dispersion, mist dispersion, regrowth, and material burst, rating him to be a strategic magician. He uses this power three times so far, once in anger when the Great Asian Alliance invaded Okinawa in 2092, and twice during Scorched Halloween three years later. Tatsuya Shiba

Shiba Miyuki is a first year student in Course 1 of the First High School. She is the younger sister of Shiba Tatsuya and born in March. She is a bloom, which is considered the upper class. She is currently the freshmen representative, and is well known throughout the school.  Described as very beautiful and draws attention everywhere she goes. But she is still modest and kind. She has a warm and loving nature, and defends her brother anytime she can. She feels bad about being the "genius," while her brother is only a reserve magician as she thinks he is the real genius, Also, their father only cares about Miyuki, and ignores Tatsuya completely. Miyuki is very sad about that.  Miyuki uses half of her magic to limit Tatsuya's magic, as a side effect her magic goes out of control occasionally. When Miyuki removes Tatsuya's limiter she can perform magic that she usually can't. One type of magic she can use can freeze peoples time which includes their nerves, muscles and consciousness. Miyuki Shiba

A Course 2 student and Tatsuya's 1-E classmate. She is one of the first people to befriend Tatsuya, and is close friends with Mikihiko, Leo and Mizuki. Very much a standard tsundere, she has an outgoing personality that allows her to befriend people easily but she garners attention from those around her and is someone who is not easily committed and goes off on a whim. While she and Leo got off to a rocky start, it's clear that eventually there may be more than just friendship between the two.  A beauty in her own right, Erika is the youngest daughter of the Chiba Family, one of the Hundred Families, famous for training people in swordsmanship. She greatly admires her older half-brother Naotsugu (almost to the point of having a brother complex) and disapproves his relationship with Mari Watanabe. She herself is a master of swordsmanship, enough for her to be recognized and allowed to carry the Chiba family name. During the Yokohama Disturbance, she wielded the giant sword Orochimaru, one of the pinnacles of sword-type armament forged by the Chiba Family.

A Third Year Student. The student council accountant of the First High School.

Suzune Ichihara

Club Activities Group Leader of the First High School.  Eldest child and heir of the Juumonji family, one of the "Ten Number Clans."

Katsuto Juumonji

A first-year, first course student in A class with Miyuki, Jun, and Honoka.

Shizuku Kitayama

A first year 1st course student in A class with Miyuki, Jun, and Shizuku.  Becomes the next student council secretary after Azusa.

Honoka Mitsui

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei

In the dawn of the 21st century, magic, long thought to be folklore and fairy tales, has become a systematized technology and is taught as a technical skill. In First High School, the institution for magicians, students are segregated into two groups based on their entrance exam scores: "Blooms," those who receive high scores, are assigned to the First Course, while "Weeds" are reserve students assigned to the Second Course.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei follows the siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, who are enrolled in First High School. Upon taking the exam, the prodigious Miyuki is placed in the First Course, while Tatsuya is relegated to the Second Course. Though his practical test scores and status as a "Weed" show him to be magically inept, he possesses extraordinary technical knowledge, physical combat capabilities, and unique magic techniques—making Tatsuya the irregular at a magical high school.
